About Avara's Academy

History

Mr. Simon V. Avara purchased International Academy of Hair Design & Technology, located at the corner of Pratt and Stricker streets in Baltimore City, in 1960, opening to students shortly thereafter. In 1970, Mr. Avara purchased Maryland Barber School, located at 16N Dundalk Avenue, changing the name to Avara’s Academy of Hair Design in March 1997. Over the years our student body has continued to grow through the referrals of our graduates and through our reputation of a quality barbering-stylist school.

Mission Statement

Avara’s Academy of Hair Design and International Academy of Hair Design & Technology is family owned and operated. Our objective is to prepare students for the Maryland State Barber Examination by giving professional clinical and theory training in all areas of Barbering. This we feel this will bring our students to the highest level of professional competency therefore preparing them for a successful and rewarding career in the Barber – Styling industry. .
